Printed in Varese and presented by the Pope in the Vatican: it is the new Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church

La Tipografica Varese, one of Europe’s most important book printers, has printed a special edition of the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church, presented today on 11 October 2017, in the presence of Pope Francis in the Vatican.

In order to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of the publication of the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church promulgated in October 1992 by John Paul II, the Gruppo Editoriale San Paolo publishing group, together with Vatican Publishing House, presented the special edition of the work accompanied by a new theological and pastoral commentary.

Under the supervision of Monsignor Rino Fisichella, over 40 theologians and catechists from all over the world reread the articles of the catechism in the light of the challenges that emerged from the current cultural context, taking account of the changes and the most important magisterial documents of the last 25 years.

The special edition of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, measuring 14×21 cm and 1720 pages long, was printed on the rotary presses of La Tipografica Varese on 40 g ivory bible paper. Production was particularly complex because of the low density of the paper used and the presence of pages with 4-colour images. The book was printed in hardback.

Some copies that underwent particular processing – in white calfskin and finished by hand – were made for Pope Francis and Monsignor Fisichella, the supervisor of the work.

We are really proud to have been chosen to bring out this particular edition of the Catechism of the Roman Catholic Church”, states Luca Bellezza Fontana, Sales and Customer Service Manager of La Tipografica Varese. “La Tipografica Varese is one of the few European companies that is able to print particularly light paper up to 27 grams, moreover also in colour. Technical competence, born of technologies used and 90 years of experience in the sector, has rewarded us”.
